Vigil to be held in front of the Cuban Embassy in Washington DC on July 11th at 7pm the first anniversary of nationwide protests in Cuba

Center for a Free Cuba, July 10, 2022, Washington, DC. On Monday, July 11th at 7:00PM a vigil will be held at the Cuban Embassy located at 2630 16th St NW, Washington, DC that is being co-organized by the Center for a Free Cuba, Cuba Decide, the Patmos Institute, The Heritage Foundation, and the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation.
This event will be the third public protest held in the Washington DC area to observe the one year anniversary of the 11J protests.
The Center for a Free Cuba joined the Cuban Freedom March in Washington, DC this past Saturday, July 9th at 4:00PM. March participants gathered at the Washington Monument and walked to the Lincoln Memorial to commemorate the first anniversary of the massive protests carried out in Cuba starting on July 11, 2021.
Alián Collazo, one of the organizers of the event, spent the time addressing crowds at both monuments and on the path between explaining the situation in Cuba, and inviting visitors to these monuments to engage the Cuban Freedom March activists in conversation.
Following the march, a vigil was held in front of the Cuban Embassy at 7:00pm, now the headquarters of the Castro dictatorship.
“We have an obligation to mark the first anniversary of nationwide protests in Cuba, especially taking into account the resurgence of repression within the Island, the murders, imprisonments, repressive measures against Cuban citizens denied the right to return to their country and the ongoing hunger and thirst strikes carried out by artist and prisoner of conscience Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara inside Cuba, and scientist Ariel Uruiola in Geneva supporting his sister,” said John Suárez, Executive Director of the Center for a Free Cuba.
