Lonely and alone she stands her solitary vigil over the Malecón.   Poor in materials when compared to her northern inspiration she is powerful in spirit and echoes our best aspirations. The anonymous artist whose hands molded her shouts a cry for freedom.

Freedom denied to the Cuban people for more than fifty years by the thousands of political prisoners and executions of Castro’s dynasty.  This half a century of decay has broken the country’s cities and towns but not Cubans’ opposition to tyranny and their quest for freedom.
