Vigil in front of the Cuban Embassy in Washington D.C. will mark 50th anniversary of the death of Pedro Luis Boitel Abraham with a call for an end to impunity

A vigil will be held in front of the Cuban Embassy in Washington, D.C today, Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at 5:00pm to mark 50 years since student leader Pedro Luis Boitel Abraham died on hunger strike at the El Príncipe Prison in Havana where he was tortured. His oppressors remain in power in Cuba.
“The Center for a Free Cuba (CCL) is calling on activists to gather at 5:00 PM in front of the Cuban Embassy to remember Pedro Luis Boitel who died during a hunger strike on May 25, 1972. He had suffered years of torture at the hands of prison officials, and having completed his prison term, he had not been freed, leading to his final hunger strike. This crime remains unpunished like the other crimes of the Castro dictatorship. We pay homage to Pedro Luis and other Cuban martyrs, and ask for an end to impunity”, said John Suárez, Executive Director of the CFC.
The vigil will take place on May 25 at 2630 16th Street NW, Washington, DC at 5:00 PM.
"We are also calling for the freedom of all Cuban political prisoners, expressed through an online petition for the end of repression on the island and the freedom of those imprisoned," explained John Suárez.
